It’s fine by motorists

JMPD might write off fines worth millions.

Motorists with traffic infringements in Johannesburg might smile according to a report in The Times.

According to the report an internal document has been leaked which states “revenue is under budget by R65 million mainly due to the delay in issuing courtesy letters and enforcement notices for speeding violations by the Road Traffic Infringement Agency”.

City of Johannesburg officials have admitted that the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences, Aarto, is on the brink of “imminent collapse”.

The Road Traffic Infringement Agency has given the postal strike as a reason that worsened the matter.

The problem has been escalated to city manager Trervor Fowler.

JMPD spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar has not responded by the time of going to press.
