Intel: Vehicle theft in Florida increasing

At least three vehicles were stolen and an attempt was made at stealing a fourth vehicle during the past week.

According to the On Florida Community Forum’s Caleb Finn at least three vehicles were stolen between 15 and 17 January in Golman Street. Furthermore an attempt was made at stealing a fourth vehicle in Mail Street in Florida Park on 18 January.

Finn said at most two other vehicles are involved in the crimes and that four to eight male suspects are involved, according to the information that they’ve gathered from the community. The suspects are said to wear overalls. Both a black (GTI) and a white Volkswagen Golf have been reported as possible vehicles involved.

“We’ve noticed a general increase in attempts to steal vehicles as well as other vehicle-related crimes,” Finn told the record.

“Of course the police will not be able to confirm mere attempts, but we want to warn the community to be vigilant and park their vehicles in safe, well-lit areas.

“There have also been complaints about remote jamming and theft from vehicles have been reported to us,” he said.

“Toyota Hilux or double cab bakkies and especially Fortuners are among the most stolen vehicles in the country,” Finn said.
Volkswagen vehicles are also often stolen.

Residents are warned to double check that their vehicles are locked even if they lock it by remote. Any and all vehicle-related crime should be reported to the Florida police.
