City Power lights the way

RUIMSIG – Pierre Road and Hans Street receive new street lights, compliments of City Power.

Residents on Pierre Road and Hans Street were pleasantly surprised when City Power decided to plant poles for new street lights on 16 January on roads that never before had any street lights.

“The street lights that are currently being erected are very welcome and overdue improvement to the landscape of Ruimsig because it is a neglected suburb in terms of service delivery,” said Ward 97 councillor Jaco Engelbrecht.

He added that the lack of street lights first came to his attention shortly after he was elected as councillor in 2011 and he has been fighting since then to get the lights erected.

“The residents of Jakaranda Retirement Village were the first residents to enquire about streetlights and they are most certainly the happiest residents now as the streetlights are going up. This adds to the safety aspect as well as these elderly people struggled to see at night when using Hans Road.

“Seeing that cable theft is such a big problem, City Power decided to use aluminium conductor cables as an alternative to copper cables and this should prevent these cables from being stolen by cable thieves.”

The councillor thanked City Power for finally installing the street lights and by making these two roads a lot safer.
