Is R1 million justifiable for this road upgrade?

HONEYDEW - Road upgrade welcomed but residents question the amount of money the City allocated to the project.

As much as the road upgrade on Paul Kruger Avenue and Amplifier Street in Honeydew is welcomed by residents, the amount of money spent on the project is a discomfort for most residents. Marius Espach owns a business at the said the intersection and explained that there were car crashes every week at this intersection. He believes the road upgrade would see to a decrease in accidents on this intersection as he confirms that the upgrade is already bearing fruit. “Traffic during peak hours seems to be flowing much better.”

The notice board put on the side of the road that gives information on the project, including how much was spent, raised a lot of questions among residents. “This is something very small, it cannot be possible that it cost them that amount of money,” said Espach.

Another resident, who shares the same sentiments is Dale Duffin. He said putting up an island and stop signs can never cost more than R1 million. The City Council is still to respond on the matter.
