Flying squad officer killed while on duty

Sergeant Curt Oosthuizen, 36, described as a dedicated member of the West Rand Flying Squad, was killed in the line of duty after he was hit by a vehicle last Monday (5 January).

Oosthuizen was hit by a vehicle on Monday evening in a roadblock in Honeydew while in joint operation with the Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD).

West Rand Flying Squad spokesperson, Karen du Plessis called it a very tragic accident and said his bubbly personality will be missed. She described him as a great co-worker and an outspoken person that would help any person in need of advice.

His career in policing started in 2003. Oosthuizen joined the flying squad in 2006.

A memorial service was held for him on Thursday 8 January at the Krugersdorp Police Station. He will be laid to rest in Toekomsrus where he resided.
