Who’s to blame?

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Ward councillor curious to find out who left behind a large pile of rubbish bags in Excel Park.

Excel Park in the suburb of Weltevreden Park is supposed to be a place where residents can relax but Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin believes this is becoming harder as the park’s grass is overgrown and there is a large pile of rubbish bags in the middle of the park.

“In the middle of November a team from Johannesburg City Parks (JCP) showed up to cut the grass in the park and they left behind a large pile of rubbish bags filled with grass.”

Tonkin explained that he sent a complaint about the rubbish bags to the entity but nothing has been done to rectify the situation yet.

“It’s more than two months later and the bags are still stacked in a heap and it makes the park look sloppy and residents in the area are unhappy about the state of the park as the grass hasn’t been trimmed again after November.”

JCP spokesperson Jenny Moodley denies that the entity is involved and explained, “I have spoken to the team and they maintain that all cuttings were removed as they worked, and therefore this was not work done by City Parks.”

“This work had to be done by someone, it could be one of the City’s sub-contractors because it’s unlikely that the grass cut itself,” concluded Tonkin.
