Power grid under significant pressure- Eskom

ROODEPOORT — Do not rule out load shedding as businesses return to work

The power grid is under significant pressure increasing the risk of load shedding.

Power utility, Eskom tweeted a warning that indicated power outages were highly likely as businesses and the economy reboot after the festive season.

The tweet read: “The risk of load shedding for today has increased. Kindly assist in reducing the demand by switching off unnecessary electrical appliances.”

On Monday 5 January City power asserted that businesses and residents would not be victims to scheduled load shedding. On the company’s website, time frames have been given out for possible load shedding should the power grid buckle under pressure.

“We are seeing a lot of demand but we are able to supply. The risk of load shedding is low to medium,” said Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe.
