No certainty of power cuts this week.

HONEYDEW — City power gives the all clear as no power cuts are expected, but warns residents that anything could happen.

City Power has asserted that there will not be any power outages this week as several people return to work and businesses re-open their doors.

“There will not be any scheduled power cuts this week, however, we have issued some time frames on our site in the case that something trips,” said the company’s spokesperson Sol Masolo.

South Africans were subjected to several planned and unplanned outages late last year as the country’s power plants buckled under pressure. The power cuts have reflected the ageing power stations and maintenance backlogs.

Masolo does warn, however, that residents need to be considerate as unplanned power outages could take place anytime if the power grid experiences the same pressures as in November and December.

Residents and business owners are still encouraged to use electricity wisely and reduce usage. This would assist in managing the power system as planned maintenance sweeps are carried out at the Medupi and Kusile power plants.
