Meet Sandiso Gebashe

MELVILLE – KZN born DJ Sandiso Gebashe is slowly becoming a household name as one of the top House music DJ’s in the country and has earned himself a Man Crush Monday spot this week.

He is young talented and represents a true definition of a go-getter.

DJ Sandiso Gebashe (24) has worked very hard to be a recognised DJ in the country.

“It is very difficult to break into the industry because not everyone will work with you if you are new,” he said.

With great zeal and passion set on what he has always dreamt about, DJ Sandiso did not let this kick him down.

“I had to do a lot of free gigs to build my brand, but sometimes people would take advantage in the name of experience. But, as one grows as an artist it changes and becomes better,” said DJ Sandiso.

Not only is he a DJ, he is also a producer and has worked with several noticeable artists in the music industry.

His production days were rooted from his sound engineering background with the SABC, which then led to his passion for music making and keeping the dance floor filled.

His first single titled Oobaye Oobeya was well received by music lovers and this prompted him to release a follow up single titled Sound from the Caves.

His third single Touch Me, featuring singer Moneoa, is his most successful track to date.

“Working with Moneoa was amazing because we are both from Durban. With the song, we wanted to send a message to the listeners and it came out very well.”

It is his unique talent of fusing African-inspired music, with commercial House music that sets him apart from his peers and he intends to work with various artists in the industry.

“I am from Durban and would like to work with some people from there. I want to work with Big Nuz, Tira, Uhuru and Dream Team,” he said.

There is no doubt that 2015 has a lot of great things in store for DJ Sandiso, who plans to kick start the year with a brand new single called Hawe Ma that is set to feature Okmalumkoolkat and Stilo Magolide. The song is set to drop on 23 January.

“I don’t want to be a DJ and a producer who only works with house singers, but I want to work with Hip Hop artists and grow my fan base,” he said, shedding light into his plans for the future.

DJ Sandiso could not sign off without a bit of advice to up and coming DJ’s and artists.

“Young people need to keep pushing. Never give up. It took me four years to get to where I am and I am still pushing.”
