Christmas bells and a brand new baby girl

WILGEHEUWEL – Christmas comes with a wonderful surprise for new parents.

A young couple from Wilgeheuwel was thrilled by the Christmas present of a lifetime after giving birth to a healthy baby girl on Christmas day.

Franke Abel was born shortly after 6am on 25 December at Wilgeheuwel Hospital, Roodepoort, weighing a sturdy 3.22kg and measuring 49cm, much to the delight of her doting new parents, Robert and Grietjie.

“It was an easy pregnancy,” Grietjie told the Northsider on 26 December, a day after giving birth. “Our due date was only set for after the New Year, but I began cramping on Christmas Eve and learnt that I had actually gone into labour after seeing our doctor.”

Meanwhile, Robert sat on the windowsill gently rocking Franke in his arms, unable to take his eyes off his beautiful new-born daughter. He explained that his wife’s birthday is on Valentine’s Day, so he feels that it’s extra special to now also have a daughter who will celebrate her birthday on Christmas.

“Both Grietjie and I come from big families and we are going to make sure every member knows that it means two presents for Franke on the 25th [December],” chuckled Robert as he stood up and placed Franke on Grietjie’s chest before both parents beamed for their first family photo.

The Roodepoort Northsider would like to congratulate the Abel’s on the beautiful new addition to their family and wish them the very best for the future. May they spend many, many wonderful Christmases together.
