Cleaning up the neighbourhood

The Goudrand community had enough of empty promises and decided to do it themselves.

Having had enough of empty promises from ANC councillor Sabelo Ncana, the Goudrand community in Dobsonville organised a clean-up campaign today, Monday 22 Dercember.

Community spokesperson Prudence Tsotetsi said they have pleaded for assistance from the councillor to clean up the area to no avail. She said the community met with Ncana about two months ago where he indicated that he will get a team together to establish a plan to clean up the area. “We have not heard from him since. He is not answering his emails, calls or SMSs,” Tsotetsi said.

She added that the area is riddled with huge sinkholes where illegal mining is taking place and even though it has been reported to the police on numerous occasions, nothing seems to be done. “The Goudrand community all got together to clean the area ourselves. Everybody pitched in. We also received assistance from Pikitup who provided bags for the rubbish,” Tsotetsi said and added that Shoprite gave a R300 gift voucher and Pick n Pay provided water and cold drinks.
