Minor collapse at Cradlestone

MULDERSDRIFT – Heavy rainfall causes havoc at Cradlestone Mall.

No one was injured when part of a ceiling at Cradlestone Mall fell down. Eyewitness Wayne Strydom, who was at the mall when the ceiling collapsed, said it was a very scary experience. “It was just after 5.30 pm on Monday when we were waiting to catch a movie then suddenly there was a huge noise from the roof and part of the ceiling came down with water gushing down from the rain.”

The mini-collapse, however, did not stop Strydom carrying on with what he initially went to do at the mall. “I still watched the movie, but was a bit skeptical as I sat through it,” shared Strydom.

Marketing manager for the mall Najla Richardson confirmed the incident. “The Mall experienced heavy rainfall, as a result of a severe hail storm which caused excessive flows on some of the storm water lines.” She explained that there were various water leaks, which caused a section of a ceiling board to collapse at the food court area of the mall. She did deny reports that suggested that an aircon fell off from the ceiling. “The collapse led to the exposure of a light fitting and electrical wires from the ceiling.” She added that only minor damage was caused to the ceiling and no people were injured.

“The project team has already commenced with the repairs and we can ensure all our shoppers that the Mall is fully functional and safe to shop with us,” concluded Richardson.
