High risk: Possible power cuts due to generators

Engineers busy investigating the cause of the breakdown according to Eskom.

The risk of rolling blackouts dramatically increased after four generators stopped working at three power stations on Tuesday 16 December according to a recent Eskom press statement.

“The risk of load shedding is high, but at the moment we have not started because we are able to continue generating electricity,” Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said.

“Our engineers are busy investigating the cause of the breakdown.”

On December 8, Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona said the country did not have a power supply crisis.

Four of Eskom’s big generating units, two at Matimba station and two at Duvha station, have stopped working on Tuesday.

Updates on load shedding and load shedding schedules will be shared by theĀ record as more information becomes available.
