Our officers are in shape

STRUBENS VALLEY — Honeydew Police teach Virgin active instructors a thing or two about being fit.

A team of personal trainers and instructors were showed a thing a two by the SAPS Tactical Unit team on 6 December.

Hosted by Hirsch’s in Struben’s Valley, the day was also a great way to promote wellness and healthy living.

“Hirsch’s is very passionate about fitness and wellness and we got together with the team from Virgin Active to challenge the Honeydew cops for the title of the fittest team,” said Amoryn Golden, Public Relations Officer for the company.

The event was a first of its kind and the two teams competed in Virgin’s latest training method called ‘The Grid’. The 16 participants from the Tactical Unit went neck and neck in a variety of strength-training including squats, core training and cardio.

In the end, our very own police officers claimed the title of being the fittest, a year’s worth of bragging rights and a free boot camp class at Virgin Active.

“We are very proud of the team, they did incredibly well. The challenge was also a great way for the people to just see our SAPS officiasl in a different light, more relaxed,” added Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs from Honeydew SAPS.

Golden enthused on the success of the day, saying this was a great way to keep fitness and a healthy lifestyle in people’s minds, particularly as we approach the festive season.
