As the festive period approaches, the Honeydew Cluster Police have geared up to increase their operational effectiveness in the fight against crime. This is according to Cluster Commander, Major General Oswald Reddy.

“We have launched Operation ‘Duty Calls’ which has five phases. Phase 1: Pre-holiday from 06 October to 30 November 2014; Phase 2: Start of holiday from 1 December to 15 December 2014. Phase 3: Festive period, 16 December 2014 to 2 January 2015. Phase 4: End of holiday; and Phase 5: Post-holiday season, ending on 31 January 2015.”

Throughout the festive season, Maj Gen Reddy said they will focus on six pillars during the planned operation:

  •  Pillar 1 – Aggravated and armed robberies
  •  Pillar 2 – Firearms, liquor and second-hand goods
  •  Pillar 3 – Crimes against women and children and persons with disabilities
  •  Pillar 4 – Tracing wanted suspects
  •  Pillar 5 – Road safety enforcement
  •  Pillar 6 – Border security

He highlighted that certain categories of crime reflect seasonal trends of increase and have therefore been prioritised for attention by the police.

He added that the turnaround strategy implemented within the Honeydew Cluster since July 2014 are yielding positive results. “My three focus areas remain –enhancing our intelligence capacity, community mobilisation and multidisciplinary integrated approach to law enforcement,” said Reddy.

He appealed to community members to take basic safety precautions and be vigilant at all times where they may be targeted by criminals.

Honeydew Cluster comprises of the following Police Stations: Diepsloot, Douglasdale, Florida, Honeydew, Randburg, and Roodepoort.

Reddy also pointed out that with the demarcation of boundaries being approved and implemented as from 1 December 2014, various changes have occurred in that some police stations have acquired additional areas within their precincts and others have reduced some of the areas that they currently police. He explained that these boundaries have been aligned in terms of the Municipal and Magisterial districts to ensure improved service delivery to the communities they serve as the Criminal Justice System (CJS).

“In lieu of the above, there will be a realignment of some sectors in consultation with the Community Police Forum (CPF) and other key role players,” concluded Maj Gen Reddy.
