Following a cleanup of Excel Park in August, Ward 126 Councillor Mike Tonkin said the park is back to its previous neglected state.
After a walk through the park, Tonkin was shocked at the way the park is looking now. “A lot of people took an entire Saturday off to beautify the park and it seems like it was all for nothing.”
The first problem is the rubbish that’s strewn around the park. “I have submitted a complaint about the rubbish to Pikitup and nothing has been done about the situation yet.”
He added that the rubbish can also be found in the stream and that’s his biggest concern. “It’s floating around in the stream and recently builders started to dump their rubble in the stream as well. This is a big concern as our big rains are still coming and we are going to be in trouble when that happens because the stream is going to overflow and flood the park and the surrounding houses.”
Tonkin said that he had sent in a complaint to City Parks. “It’s the entity’s mandate to maintain and clean streams and rivers and they haven’t maintained the stream for the last couple of months.”
No comment was received from City Parks by the time of going to print.
