Beware: New hijacking tactic

It's the ideal opportunity to hijack or rob a person, says resident.

Resident Runet Cloete Potgieter warns Roodepoorters to beware of a new hijacking tactic.

In a post on facebook she tells of a new hijacking tactic rearing its ugly head. She writes that typically a taxi drives ahead of one’s vehicle on the road. The driver or passengers then throw something at one’s vehicle, like a beer bottle, which shatters the windscreen and hazards one’s view. As soon as one then tries to pull over, the taxi driver pulls over as well.

It’s the ideal opportunity to hijack or rob a person.

“Please be careful,” she wrote on facebook, “especially during the festive season.”

“If you can, keep driving and get near other traffic on the road so that you’re less vulnerable.

“Take care of yourself and your family.”

Potgieter used a taxi merely as an example. It is not certain whether the photo she shared is of her own vehicle’s shattered windscreen.
