Collision after illegal u-turn attempt
The driver attempted the u-turn while traffic lights were green on Ontdekkers Road for motorists travelling in the direction of Krugersdorp.
An attempted illegal u-turn at the intersection of Corlett and Ontdekkers Road caused a collision this morning.
At around 9.15 am the male driver, 28, of a green Corsa Lite that was travelling along Ontdekkers Road in the direction of Westgate Shopping Centre decided to make an illegal u-turn at the intersection.
The driver attempted the u-turn while traffic lights were green on Ontdekkers Road for motorists travelling in the direction of Krugersdorp.
A female University of Pretoria-student, 20, travelled at 80 km/h down Ontdekkers Road.
“When I realised what the man was doing, I attempted to swerve out but it was too late,” she told the record.
Her grey Toyota Corolla collided with the left front side of the Corsa.
Neither driver sustained serious injuries. The man was taken to Netcare Krugersdorp Private Hospital for moderate injuries to his arm.
“I think I’m still in shock, I’ll probably feel the full impact tomorrow,” the student said.
She was on her way to the gym.
Paramedics and towtruck drivers from ER 24 and A1 Assist helped her after the collision and she commended them for their quick assistance.
Metro police were on scene and will conduct an investigation.
