Streetlights burn while loadshedding continues

CONSTANTIA KLOOF – Load shedding continues but streetlights stay on 24 hours a day says resident Chris le Roux.

Some residents are really fed up because their complaints about streetlights that are on 24 hours a day in spite of continuing load shedding, seem to fall on deaf ears.

Chris le Roux said, “I can’t comprehend why and how all of the houses are without electricity whenever load shedding happens but the streetlights continue to stay on. The lights on my street, Pauline Street, are on constantly.”

He explained that the problem has been an ongoing one for the last couple of months.

“It’s been months and the lights stay on and no one comes out to fix it.”

Le Roux added that it is a losing battle when you try to phone the Joburg Connect line to get the problem resolved.

“Its really a joke, they keep you on hold for hours and then they eventually give you a reference number, but no one from City Power ever comes out to repair the lights. They just need to adjust the timers so that they work and turn off the lights during the day.”

City Power spokesperson Sol Masolo explained that he received the complaint. “We will send a team to look into the issue and address it.”
