Make sure your car is ready for the holidays

JOHANNESBURG – Entertained children are happy children says Motor Industry Workshop Association chairperson Les Mc Master.

Road trips form a big part of our holiday plans and one of the most important parts of the trip is to keep our children safe and entertained, said Motor Industry Workshop Association chairperson Les Mc Master.

“It is essential when travelling with young children to ensure that car seats are properly secured. Statistics show that up to 70% of car seats are incorrectly installed. Parents must also ensure that the seat is the age-appropriate size and kids who are big enough to use the normal seat belts are buckled in at all times.”

He explained that children get fidgety if they sit still for too long. “It is important to stop at regular intervals to give everyone a chance to stretch their legs and refuel for the next leg. Try to pick pit-stops with fun activities for children such as jungle gyms. This gives kids a chance to work off some energy without distracting mom or dad while they drive.”

“The vehicle is one of the most important things to look after and service before you go away. Make sure the vehicle is in tip top condition and plan your service ahead of time as new parts may take one or two days to arrive at the workshop. Remember to have a breakdown kit ready that has a flash light in and a fully charged cellphone.”

Mc Master dispensed the following tips to keep your children happy during those long trips:
