Eskom nearly defrauded of billions

Customers would have suffered.

Two Eskom employees and an accomplice, believed to be the mastermind, have been arrested on Friday in connection with an attempt to defraud the power supplier of billions.

According to Hawks spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko the arrests came after a two month intense investigation into fraudulent activities in Eskom’s IT department.
The two men, aged 27 and 29, are alleged to have been interfering in Eskom’s payroll network system which could possibly have compromised billions of rands. It is believed that this would have affected customers of the beleaguered power supply entity.
The Hawks have confiscated cell phones and computer equipment believed to have been used in committing the crime.
