Honeydew CPF holds AGM

HONEYDEW - CPF chairperson steps down after serving the forum for more than 10 years.

After being involved in the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) for more than 13 years, chairperson of the forum Kim Myburgh stepped down from the hot seat to make way for the new incoming committee.

At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) that was held at the police station on Tuesday 18 November, Myburgh wished the incoming new committee all the best for the new roles that they will be taking.

“This is not an easy road, it requires a lot of commitment,” said Myburgh. He continued “There are so many misconceptions out there. People think that if you are CPF chairperson or committee member you have certain privileges at the police station.”

Myburgh also told the CPF members, who were present, to bring ideas and skills that will help fight crime in the different suburbs. “You don’t have to be a committee member to make a difference.”

As another crime-fighting tool, Myburgh encouraged those who were present to use platforms like the Sector crime forums, residents’ associations and blockwatches in making their areas crime free.

In his report, the chairperson shared the successes and some of the challenges that they faced throughout the years as the CPF. “As the CPF, we now have volunteers who help in the police station’s client service centre and also, we now have a trauma unit.”

A new committee that comprised of representatives from all four sectors in the Honeydew Precinct was also announced. The committee members are set to meet on 25 November where portfolio elections will be held.

Margaret van Zwieten from the Honeydew Cluster facilitated the election of the new committee members. She encouraged them to take advantage of the experience from the outgoing committee. “Kim (Myburgh) has 13 years experience in the CPF; whenever you’re experiencing challenges don’t hesitate to contact him, in fact, make sure that you get his number after this meeting.”

The committee members will undergo vetting to ensure that they do not have any criminal records.

James Khumalo from the Department of Community Safety was also present to witness and help with facilitation.

Some of the management members of Honeydew Police Station were also present.

Honeydew Police Station Commander Brigadier Wayne Sirkhot thanked the CPF members for their continued support and efforts in the fight against crime. Brig Sirkhot wished Myburgh all the best for all that he will be doing.
