Race Fora cause

ROODEPOORT — Local ambulance service is racing for our furry friends with their first fundraiser.

Emergency personnel from Quick Response Services will speed things up a bit and save the lives of animals on 13 December when they host their first fundraiser just in time for Christmas.

Founder of the ambulance service, Denver Ramnarain, said the Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) cause is one that is close to their hearts because it is in their own community and this is the perfect way to give back.

“We have always been very focused on giving back to our community. As an ambulance service, we often help people in our community who are sick and injured, but animals also need someone who can assist them in their time of need. Anyone living on the West Rand, would have heard of Fora and would recognise the amazing work they do. We just wanted to assist,” said Ramnarain.

The fundraising event on 13 of December is open to the entire community.“The more the merrier” adds Denver.

Teams of four or five people will set off at 10am with a sheet of 10 clues. The teams have to have a compulsory female driver. The 10 clues vary from puzzles to fun at the fire station.

Ramnarain said, “The winner is the first team to complete all 10 tasks. All the money raised will be donated to Fora.”

The fun day is open to any person interested in supporting the initiative and the different tasks will be best suited for the whole family. All the tasks on the day will be set and centered around the West Rand.

“It is a great way for the whole community to have some fun but take part in a wonderful community initiative. This is the first time Quick Response does a fundraiser of this magnitude, so we are very excited. Last year, we rescued a little boy from drowning in a swimming pool, but the hospital costs and therapy were very hard on his family. So we have donated several items to the family over the year just to make life a little easier.”

Giving back is a reward in itself, but participants can look forward to a number of great prizes to make the day extra special, including Silverstar vouchers and a year’s membership to the Walk Haven Dog Park. Community members are, of course, encouraged to donate prizes.
