24-hour crime spree in Quellerina and Florida

QUELLERINA – Florida Police had their hands full when a number of crimes happened on 30 and 31 October in the Quellerina and Florida North areas.

It may have seemed like a normal day until a series of crimes happened on 30 October in Quellerina and surrounding areas.

Florida Police spokesperson Captain Lydia Mtila-Dikolomela confirmed that eight suspects entered the Pep Store on Goldman Street in Florida, robbed an undisclosed amount of money and fled in a Toyota Quantum. Police responded and spotted the vehicle on Main Reef Road. “Four of the suspects jumped out of the Quantum and tried to escape on foot and some of the officers jumped out of their vehicles and apprehended the four suspects. A search was conducted and three unlicensed firearms and an undisclosed amount of money was recovered. Two of the firearms were without serial numbers as they were filed off.” She explained that the eight suspects aged between 22 and 37 were detained for the robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms. “They will appear in the Magistrates’ Court soon.”

She added that the crime spree continued the next morning on 31 October when two suspects committed an ATM fraud and fled in a Chevrolet Aveo without any number plates. “We were able to arrest the two suspects close to the N1 Highway off-ramp just outside Florida.”

Three housebreaking and robbery incidents were also reported: one in Quellerina and two in Florida. No arrests have been made yet.

Dikolomela concluded and said, “We will appreciate any information from the public about the robberies.”
