One less criminal on our streets

MULDERSDRIFT — Security company successfully nab one of the most wanted criminal in the area

Tipoffs from residents in the Muldresdrift area led the Iron Squad security officials from Drift Reaction to capture a man believed to be linked to a number of crimes in the Roodepoort area.

The SAPS organised crime unit of the West Rand was immediately contacted on 22 October and they positively identified the suspect after doing an identification parade. The suspect is believed to be a member of a gang that has been terrorising residents in Ruimsig, Muldersdrift and even as far as Fourways.

Drift Reaction CEO Jarques Treptow said, “They have been involved in violent crimes including armed robberies, attempted murders, rape and housebreakings, just to name a few. Our guys here responded to the information given to us about the suspect’s whereabouts and we alerted the intelligence unit. There will be more ID parades at the police station to catch the rest of the gang. After his arrest, we had a quiet weekend.”

Drift Reaction often works with SAPS to carry out special operations at night and catch perpetrators who harass and victimise residents continuously.

During the arrest on 22 October, the man was found in possession of condoms and a balaclava.

Chairperson of Steynsvlei-Northvale Resident’s Association, Gwen Britz, added, “I always say an arrest really is only the beginning in the war against crime. Our communities are substantially safer after this arrest but we need the assistance of SAPS members to affectively rid our area of these criminals.”

Treptow concluded by saying that they not only want to react to crime. “We want to be proactive and get rid of the criminal activity. This is our community and we want to keep it safe,” Treptow said.
