64 years of greatness

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Passion is what keeps the Roodepoort Little Theatre going strong.

The Roodepoort Little Theatre has been around for 64 years, according to chairperson Oriela van der Walt.

She explained that the Little Theatre uses actors from all spheres of life. “Most of the actors aren’t professional actors and they all have their day jobs, thus it’s a passion. We have two productions a year and this year our big production called Kindly Keep it Covered happened in July and it was directed by Mark Boshoff,” Van der Walt continued. “The actors really put all their effort in the productions as they practice and come together once or twice a week to practise and prepare themselves for the upcoming shows.”

She added that funding comes from ticket sales and other royalties, but anyone is always welcome to make a donation to the Little Theatre.

“While we are on the topic of ticket sales, our next production is a variety Christmas show that will take place at the Basement Theatre in [Roodepoort Civic Centre, 100 Christiaan de Wet Road] on 5 and 6 December and again on 12 and 13 December. Tickets will cost R80 for all the shows except the 13 December’s show that will cost R60 per ticket.”

“Bring the family along and come and enjoy a production that will leave you smiling at the end,” concluded Van der Walt.
