Do you celebrate Halloween?

As a black person, Halloween never was celebrated.

The record hit the streets to ask the community if they celebrate Halloween and what it meant to them. This is what they said.

Thabang Modise: “No, I don’t celebrate Halloween. As a black person, Halloween never was celebrated in the hood. We celebrate Guy Fawkes, which is similar to Halloween.”

Arnoux Trotter: “No, I don’t celebrate the day. Growing up, I never was told about the day. To me it is not a big day like Heritage Day (National Braai Day).”

Johan Struwig: “Yes, I celebrate Halloween. As a matter of fact, we are throwing a big Halloween party tonight.”

Sunny Hart: “No, I don’t celebrate Halloween. The Americans and we are of totally different cultures.”

Friends Tshegofatso Sebokedi and Boitumelo Khokong: “Yes, we celebrate Halloween. Maybe it is just an excuse for us to attend scary parties.”
