Unity in Constantia Kloof community

These residents might not have a block watch but the strong community supports one another.

Celebrating ten years of involvement in community safety, the Constantia Kloof Residents Forum (CKRF) looks back on what it has achieved over the years.

Committee member Liandra Vorstenbosch recounts its development and current reach.

“It all started in 2004 when residents signed up to a formal forum headed by Gary Marsh – the forum then had a few basic security measures in mind,” says Vorstenbosch in a press statement.

“Ten years later Marsh still holds the reigns as chairman and considering 800+ houses and around 100 businesses in the area, it’s no easy feat.

“We deploy various crime-prevention efforts, communicate real-time crime alerts through our SMS network (405 SMS messages are sent out at a time), email network (with a database of 236 email addresses) and facebook group (143 members), strive for peace of mind, promote community camaraderie, develop a sense of ownership, ensure a well-maintained environment, provide community support structures and access to important information for Constantia Kloof.”

The CKRF recently partnered with Subrosa Security headed by Jacques Kleynhans, although the company has been active in the area since last year. Vorstenbosch is of the opinion that the partnership brought about a tight grip on criminal activity in the area. Every CKRF meeting is attended by at least one police member and Subrosa Security representative, which enables the group to monitor crime patterns and build a record of people and vehicles suspected to be involved in criminal activity in Constantia Kloof.

“This is a massive joint effort by all concerned and more great things will come of it,” Vorstenbosch says.

“We take this opportunity to thank local police and Subrosa Security for their ongoing support and commitment, and also thank the Johannesburg Roads Agency and City of Johannesburg for their support thus far.”
