In memory of Doug

RUIMSIG – Friends and family were to celebrate the 40th birthday of slain motorcyclist this November, instead they are left to cherish his memory.

A moving tribute is to be held on 15 November in honour of a man who would have been celebrating his 40th birthday this month with friends and family…

But the loved ones of the late Doug Pearce will now only reminisce about the man they used to know as loving husband, a brother, a friend and the father of a beautiful five-year-old daughter.

“The Doug we knew would’ve had a big birthday bash with all his friends for his 40th,” said Bronwyn Ingram, spokesperson for the family. “The plans to hold a fundraiser for his family has been well received and we are truly grateful for the support everyone has offered us.”

Pearce was killed in a road rage incident in February and the case against murder accused Meekahefele Masooa was moved from the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Courts to the South Gauteng High Court a month ago. Official proceedings are scheduled to begin on 26 January 2015, to 13 February – exactly one day before an entire year has passed since Pearce’s death.

Masooa is still claiming that he was acting in self-defence.

The memorial ‘birthday’ celebration (originally planned for 2 November) will be held at the Berlin Pub at Ruimsig Country Estate on 15 November at noon. Tickets are R150 per person and include a buffet meal, excluding drinks. Bookings are essential as there is limited space available.

A fund has also been established to which people can contribute.
