Culembeeck community fest celebrates locals

NG Kerk Culembeeck thanks local institutions and schools for their dedicated work on behalf of the community.

The NG Kerk Culembeeck honoured community heroes and local children during a special service recently.

The West Suburbs Roodepoort Neighbourhood Watch, Roodepoort Police and various organisations as well as local schools were invited to share in the day’s activities. During the service each received a special candle and was thanked on behalf of the community for the work they do or the education they provide. Representatives from guest institutions were invited to light a second candle from a candle on the stage, symbolising hope and blessings over their dedicated work, with the flames of their candles symbolising their passion and the difference they have made. Community organisations included NG Welsyn, SOS Ministries, Gembou and Cansa West Rand.

A large map was displayed on the stage on which the institutions were represented by bright lights and the church by a flickering light.

During the ceremony children from Hoërskool Bastion and Laerskool Culembeeck, Helderkruin, Dr Havinga and Roodebeeck, elderly residents from Luipaardsvlei Old Age Home and young dancers from Ludik’s Akro Dance Studio performed on stage, showcasing the talent that lies within Roodepoort.

Afterwards attendees were served pancakes in the church gardens where various stalls and a jumping castle had been put up. Representatives from the many guest institutions were treated to a feast, partly served by the main organiser, Yolandi Kok.

“I have to give my thanks and the community’s thanks to Ds Phillip Voight for his kind assistance with this project,” Kok said on stage.

“To me it was important to highlight the potential and greatness in Roodepoort and to show our appreciation to many of the organisations making it possible in our community,” Kok said adding, “I thank God that we have dedicated people like the ones here today.”

During the ceremony candles also were lit on behalf of the organisations that were invited but unable to attend the event.
