Dedicated to bodybuilding

FEATHERBROOKE – Local competitive body builder talks about taking part in the world championships and his love for the sport.

Discipline, hard work and dedication paid off for Nico Fourie of Featherbrooke Estate.

This competitive bodybuilder has been selected for the South African national team that will be participating in the world championships to be held in Australia in November. “Bodybuilding is not a team sport and with every achievement I get some self-satisfaction that cannot be explained,”said Fourie.

After taking a break from the competitive world for some years, he made a comeback in 2011 and it’s been raining with great achievements for him. “Every time I compete I ensure that I’m better than my last competition.”

Since the beginning of this year, he has taken first place for senior men Class 1 at the National Amateur Body Building Association’s (Nabba) Gauteng provincials; first place for senior men over 95kg and the overall senior men’s winner at Rossi Classic.

Rossi Classic is a non-affiliated show that is organised by 10 times South African bodybuilding champion Marco Rossi.

During the Nabba South African Championships, Fourie walked away with first place for the senior men Class 1, which earned him a spot in the national team.

With all his achievements, Fourie explained that this is a life-long fascination thing he has always had. “I’m the youngest of three sons at home and every time we took family photos, my brothers would all pose and smile and I would always show my muscles,” said the passion-driven Fourie.

Self-discipline is key for this muscular man as he talks about how he overcomes little battles that he sometimes encounter. “I don’t just eat anything. I follow a very strict diet.” Serious about his diet – such that he even packs his own food when attending events like braais. “It’s always about achieving my goals.”

With everything he learns from this sport, Fourie said he is glad that he can apply all of that in his personal life. “[In] everything I do, I must always have a plan, structure and work on that to achieve the end result.” Fourie, as a sportsman who has taken part in other sporting codes, highlighted that he sees bodybuilding as the most demanding sport. “It requires one’s dedication.”
