Community knows what’s up in their suburb

RADIOKOP – WhatsApp groups strictly for crime-related and other vital information, says Radiokop Resident's Association chairperson Greg Olsen.

In an effort to stop crime and make the community more alert, the Radiokop Resident’s Association (RRA) came up with an ingenious plan. RRA chairperson Greg Olsen explained that the association decided to use WhatsApp as a tool to protect and inform the community about what is happening around them.

“It’s a cheap, effective on-the-go tool that anyone with a smart phone can download and use and we decided to create two WhatsApp groups to help us keep an eye on crime.”

Secretary Peter Dinsmore explained that RRA has set up two different groups to distribute information among members. “We have two groups, one is for emergencies only and the other is for general discussions. The groups are there for us to assist each other with urgent or important information such as, illegal activities and missing animals or even service interruptions.”

Olsen added that rules are in place to make sure that there is no abuse of the groups. “The groups are strictly for important info and we set in rules so that residents can’t misuse the groups as they are vital in making our suburb a safer place.”
