Pupils spell their way up

Their journeys began when they participated at their school's spelling bee.

Connor Wilson, Lathitho Beyile and Tasreeq Issaacs from Discovery Primary School will be spelling their way to the top.

These three Grade 5 pupils will participate in the spelling bee regional finals on 1 November.

Their journeys began in the beginning of the year when they participated at their school’s spelling bee. 21 pupils participated but only five made it through to the next round.

They competitively advanced in each level from the first round that was held at Turffontein Primary School, the second round at the Voorbrand Primary School to the semifinals that were held at St Ive’s Primary School.

“I am very excited that I have made it this far. I know I am going to come back a winner,” says the very confident Connor who briskly spelled the word “extravagant” for a curious fellow pupil.
