RiverWel Resident’s Association positive for 2015

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Resident Association plans ahead and looks back at a successful year.

The RiverWel Resident’s Association (RRA) held their 17th consecutive Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 8 October at the Weltevreden Park Pre-Primary School hall. The association’s chairman, Kevin Thomson, explained that the RRA had a successful year when it came to projects that the association’s members completed. “We had a successful river clean-up at Excel Park on 15 August and the CPF Fun Run was well attended by everyone in Weltevreden Park.”

According to him, the ward will be much safer as they will be installing a camera surveillance system across the area. “We will also maintain palisade fencing around the area to make it safer in 2015.” Thomson added that the association is working closely with Honeydew Police and Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin to tackle the remaining issues. “We have a big vagrant problem in the area as they survive without an income and they are protected by the law. We are still looking at ways to solve this problem and would appreciate any advice or tips from the community.”

He said,“The meeting had a positive outcome as we elected a new committee that will serve the community in 2015. Wendy Acton has been elected as vice chairman and Neville Burnett has been elected as the adminisrator. Other new valued members that will also serve on the committee are: Peter Critcher, Chris Huckle, Sharan Laloo, Peter Redfearn, Denoe’ Zuydervelt and Lau Zuydervelt.”

Thomson concluded by thanking Ward councillor Tonkin and his wife Rosemary, Sergeant Nicholas Makhura, the Honeydew Police Sector 2 manager and the security companies operating in the area.
