Four wrestlers of the West Rand Wrestling Gymnasium excelled at the South African Wrestling Championships in Pretoria recently.

Morné Maree, chairperson of the club says Riehan Botha, a pupil at Millennium Primary School won a gold in the SA Youth Greek/Roman (Greco) Championships and the SA Youth Freestyle Championships, and was crowned SA Champion in his age and weight group.

Botha says Bertie Venter, a pupil at Laerskool Kenmare, Marco Maree, a pupil at Laerskool Protearif and Ruan Welman, a Laerskool Roodekrans pupil all achieved gold in the SA Regional League Championships where they represented Region 3.

“We invite all potential wrestlers to the open days at the club in October until mid November,” Botha says. The Witpoortjie Wrestling Club is situated at the Witpoortjie Recreational Hall at the corner of Vermooten and South Roads. Practice sessions are held from 6.15pm to 7:45pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
