The residual effect of a brothel has residents of Finch Street seeing red.
For almost two years a brothel was run from a house by Chinese nationals until a murder brought an end to activities. A new family now is renting the house, however, they and the rest of the neighbours still are being annoyed by customers who do not know the brothel has closed in February already.
The neighbours did not want to be identified, but say when the brothel was operating they often saw young Asian women at the premises and cars that came and went throughout the day. The coming and going of customers have not ceased though, says a neighbour who wants to stay anonymous. There are cars stopping at all times blowing their horns. There even has been an incident where one customer forcefully tried to access the property, according to Bernard Farrel of Ontdekkers Park South Blockwatch.
Farrel confirmed that the house of ill repute indeed did exist. According to him the block watch was well aware of the situation and even attempted to scare customers away by parking outside and then switching on their flashlights when customers arrived. While the brothel’s doors still were open the police arrested some of the girls for prostitution as well as being in the country illegally.
Farrel says the madam of the house allegedly borrowed money from the Chinese Mafia, but fell on hard times and could not repay it. On 15 January the Mafia sent a hit man who strangled the woman and boarded a plane on the same night back to China. Farrel says on the night of the murder there were as many as four Chinese consul vehicles parked outside the house while the police were investigating the crime scene.
One of the girls was arrested for obstruction of justice after changing her statement various times. She was released on bail. Shortly afterward she disappeared and the brothel also ceased to exist.
Farrel says they have asked the new residents of the house to join the block watch so they can assist them with the nuisance of the brothel customers.
