Honeydew Police respond in under two minutes

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Fast response by police baffles resident.

When Dave Rankin heard a noise coming from his motorised gate, he knew someone was trying to break into his property. “I immediately went to the kitchen window and as I was drawing the curtain, a face stared back at me through the window.”

He said he was not sure who got a bigger fright – he or the man outside his house. “After that I heard two or three men making a run for it through my property.”

He immediately jumped to action and called the Sector 2 vehicle in his area. “The operator explained to me that the vehicle was on its way to Johannesburg with a prisoner that they had to go and drop off.”

Rankin said he knew the criminals were still somewhere in the complex and he decided to call Honeydew Police for assistance. “The officer on the other end of the line interrupted me while I was busy telling her the story and she said a vehicle was already on its way.”

What happened next surprised him. “As I ended the call on the landline my cellphone rang and it was the police who asked me to open the gate for them so that they could enter the complex. As I walked out, I noticed that three sector vehicles were patrolling our complex to see if they could catch the men who had entered my property with the intent of breaking in.”

He said the police were unable to catch the men but he congratulated them for their fast response.

Panorama Resident’s Association Jon Rosenberg commended the police for their fast response, “We always complain about the negative regarding the police but we don’t realise that they are actually doing their job. Thanks for all three vehicles who responded so fast to the call.”
