At around 6am on 15 October a vehicle overturned on the N14 near the Petro Port according to ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.
“One person was killed and 12 others incurred multiple injuries after the bakkie which they were driving in overturned,” said Vermaak.
Vermaak explained that when paramedics arrived on scene, they discovered that the survivors were scattered across the road. “It appears as if the majority of the patients were sitting on the back of the bakkie when it overturned. One person was found with fatal injuries and declared dead on the scene, another patient required advanced life support after the person sustained critical injuries.”
Vermaak added that the patient was airlifted by ER24’s emergency helicopter to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
“The other patients were all rushed off to various hospitals in the area for further medical treatment. Some of the patients sustained injuries that range from fractures, to scrapes and bruises.”
He concluded by saying that it wasn’t clear at this stage whether a second vehicle was involved in the accident. “Local authorities are now looking into the accident and an investigation has been opened.”
