Raffle winner drives away with his new prize

RUIMISG— Business owner Frikkie Vermaak drove away with his brand new scooter from Sarda's fundraising raffle

Frikkie Vermaak walked away with a brand new scooter from South African Riding for the Disabled Association (Sarda) on 15 October.

Sarda’s secretary Julia Morris said the raffle, which started in May, was part of the association’s 30th birthday celebrations.

“It started as a fundraiser to help us with the day-to-day operations at the centre and eventually, more than 300 tickets were sold. We need people to assist us with the upkeep of the place because we rely solely on donations. From the staff, volunteers and our horses; we appreciate as much help as possible.”

In the spirit of giving back, KJ Smart and Associates donated the scooter to Vermaak after an appeal from a Sarda employee.

Ken Smart from the company said, “I heard about the raffle competition from Samantha who works at Sarda and was immediately interested. It is so much better to directly get involved with a cause than to just throw some money and then forget about it, hence, we donated the scooter. It is a real win.”

For Frikkie, the win was a wonderful surprise. “It is very exciting to win something like this. I bought three tickets and it worked in my favour because third time is the charm. This scooter is definitely going to my 10-year-old daughter Tyla,” said a gleaming Vermaak.
