Hit and run leaves one injured

HONEYDEW— A hit and run accident has left one jogger badly hurt while police conduct investigations

Police are looking for the driver of a silver Mercedes Benz after he hit a group of runners on 13 October.

Three runners from the Khosa Running Club: Karen du Plessis, William Hulne and Jackie Koekemoer were jogging on the gravel road on Hendrik Potgieter Road when three cars started speeding and overtaking one another.

Du Plessis explained, “We were running on the right-hand side of the road so that we were facing oncoming traffic and the car came speeding from the left-hand side and hit William on the arm with the mirror. The impact was so bad that the mirror broke and shattered William’s arm, but the guy just sped on, he didn’t stop.”

The injured is currently in ICU with a shattered arm and is expected to go for an operation soon. Koekemoer and Du Plessis sustained minor injuries and a few bruises but are still in shock over the ordeal.

Du Plessis added that an ambulance that was passing on that route was able to assist the injured in record time and transported him to a nearby hospital and police officers took their statements and affidavit.
