Video: Iron Horse message goes national

Success regardless of bad weather.

An army of Harley Davidson riders went to war for road safety this past Saturday 11 October.

About 70 members of the Clearwater Harley Owners Group (Hog) left from Clearwater at 9am on a 150km ride around Johannesburg aimed at raising road-safety awareness as part of the Iron Horse Road Safety Festival. October is also Transport Month and the festival is one of many that celebrate road safety.

The riders returned to HoĂ«rskool Florida’s sports grounds where representatives from various role players such as Netcare 911 and Think Bike gave talks, demonstrations and interacted with the public.

One of the most spectacular demonstrations was when members of the Netcare 911 rescue team set up a mock crash scene and showed the public how a person is saved with the Jaws of Life.

The public also could enjoy festival fair such as boerewors rolls and was entertained with live music.

Darry Strydom, convener of the festival says due to the weather the showing was disappointing but the attendance of various television stations compensated for this by taking the message national.

Strydom hopes to make the festival an annual event.
