Peacock, an uninvited guest

Resident contemplates moving out of her home because of an annoying peacock.

Agnes Ndlovu, a Grobler Park resident has had an irritating and uninvited guest for the past three months.

Ndlovu, who contemplates moving out of her house, says she has been having sleepless nights and is frustrated with a deafening and troublesome peacock living on her roof.

She lives with her two daughters and two grandchildren and says the peacock makes an intolerable noise at night, making it impossible for them to sleep.

“This peacock really has gotten on my nerves, especially since it lately has started removing roof tiles.

“I called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and they told me they could not help me.

“I would have killed that peacock a long time ago, I just don’t want to get on the wrong side of the SPCA.”

Eric Taljaard from the Roodepoort SPCA says there is nothing they can do. He says it is not easy to catch free-range peacocks, especially since it is breeding season – they are looking for peacocks of the opposite sex. “It is advisable for Ndlovu to feed the peacock every day. The bird will be caught easier when it feels at home.

“This might take another three months,” says Taljaard.
