Ward 97 to receive infrastructure upgrades

ROODEPOORT – Ward 97 infrastructure will soon be as good as new once The City completes upgrades.

Ward 97 councillor Jaco Engelbrecht was delighted to announce that the Ward will receive an infrastructure upgrade.

Engelbrecht said, “After three years of requesting, bugging and petitioning, the Ward is getting some 479 street lights installed in Radiokop and Honeydew. City Power indicated that the streets affected will include (but is not limited to) Diepkloof Street, Pierre, Hoëveld, Potgieter, Coleen, Johan and Hans roads. Radiokop will receive 104 street lights and Honeydew 375. This will do much in improving the safety and liveability of these areas.”

He added that speed bumps still need to be constructed on Johan Road, but it couldn’t be constructed as one of the requirements for such a measure is that street lights need to be in place so that a speeding motorist can see an approaching bump.

“This should now be possible once the lights are in place.”

Engelbrecht said, “The street light project will commence as soon as the labour arrangements are sorted out. A community liaison officer will be appointed to assist with the process of procuring local labour. The Ward Governance Department at Roodepoort Civic will start with the process of appointing this person and I am hopeful that the project will kick off around November.”

He explained that the Johannesburg Roads Agency is currently reconditioning work to dirt roads in Zonnehoewe.

“The entity is still busy with the work and we urge residents in the area to be patient while the work is being completed.”

Engelbrecht added that an important meeting will take place on 8 October, that all residents in Ward 97 should consider attending. “The meeting… is [a] Sector 3 CPF meeting and Honeydew Station Commander Brigadier Wayne Sirkot and several other high ranking officers will engage with the public at this meeting. This event is scheduled to take place at the Strubensvalley Library at 6.30pm.”
