Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit Gauteng as well as parts of Limpopo and Free State, North West, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.

A 60 per cent chance exists that these storms will hit late on Monday afternoon.

Residents are urged to remain indoors during the storms and to ensure that pets have adequate shelter.

The Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) told Citizen that it is prepared for any eventualities this afternoon.

The Service also forecast a 30 per cent chance of showers on Tuesday morning for Gauteng.
