Roodepoort thieves untouched according to statistics

Although stable, crime in Roodepoort has increased in 2012 with robberies occurring more regularly.

Barely anything has been done to reduce the prominence of theft in Roodepoort over the past year.

According to Crime Stats SA, that assisted the national police in publishing the crime statistics of the past year on Friday (19 September), theft in Roodepoort is stable but has increased by 0.78 per cent since 2012.

However theft in Roodepoort has decreased in the past 10 years by a healthy 30.6 per cent.

Robberies at non-residential premises are down by 37.9 per cent in comparison to 2012 statistics, but has increased a tremendous 300 per cent since 2004.

Robbery at residential premises (while residents were at home) has worryingly increased by 10.3 per cent since 2012 and 93.4 per cent since 2004. In comparison burglaries (while no is home) has decreased by 66 per cent.

It seems business premises have been suffering with nearly 20 per cent more burglaries having been reported in 2013. Not as many stationary vehicles and motorcycles were stolen in 2013 (548) as in 2012 (705). Criminals haven’t been stealing stock or the contents of vehicles as regularly as in 2012.

Shoplifting and carjacking have both increased in 2013 compared to 2012, by 30.9 and 16.87 per cent respectively.

Other theft incidents (that could not fit into set categories) have increased by 11.4 per cent over the past year.
