Residents’ praise for promise kept

Councillor acted swiftly.

Residents of Moepel Avenue, especially of the Forest Place complex, are full of praise for councillor Suzanne Clarke and the City after the way they handled what could have turned into a disaster.

A fire broke out close to the complex in the early hours of Friday (12 September) morning and Clarke and the fire brigade were contacted immediately . The fire brigade responded and contained the fire, while Clarke assured the residents that a team would be sent out to remove the giant blue gum trees that posed the threat of keeling over onto the complex. Some of the trees were brittle and hollow inside.

As promised the fire brigade and contractors of City Parks came out on Friday. Firefighters put out the smouldering trees while they were being cut down. By Monday morning the team was busy cutting up the trees into smaller transportable sizes.

“We want to give a heads-up to councillor Clarke for the speed and efficiency with which she handled the potentially disastrous situation,” says a resident who preferred to stay anonymous.
