No stopping Francois’ fight for rhino

Witpoortjie resident gets involved in fundraising for rhino preservation.

There is no stopping Witpoortjie resident Francois Myburgh’s quest for rhino preservation.

After a fairly successful solo walk to raise money for rhino preservation earlier this year, Myburgh has lined up a number of new activities in which the community can participate to ultimately raise funds for his cause. Both a carnival and a rhino walk will take place between September and November.

“We must stand up as a community and a country to protect our animals before they completely disappear.”

The carnival will be held at the West Rand Pet and Bird Farm on Saturday 27 October. Organisers focus mainly on relaunching this once-popular Roodepoort venue and have partnered with Myburgh for his cause. Myburgh will host a stall at the carnival of which 30 per cent of the profits will be donated.

“Raffle tickets will be sold at R10 per ticket for a hamper that is worth over R1 000,” Myburgh says.

Entry forms for the WWEAC/ 100km Rhino Walk will be available on the day. Entry fee for the Walk is R3 500, which includes accommodation, food, beverages, the official 100km Rhino Walk cap and four official T-shirts. Only 49 spaces are available for this adventure.

“These funds will go directly to the Kruger National Park and Care For Wild.”

Myburgh is excited about teaming up with the West Rand Pet and Bird Farm and describes the owners as caring animal enthusiasts.

“On the day, the staff of the West Rand Pet and Bird Farm will teach the community to look after animals properly and stop cruelty.”

The 100 km Rhino Walk will take place between 4 and 7 November. For more information contact Francois Myburgh on 084 359 9968.
