“Keep your eyes and ears open for bad guys.”
That was the focus of ADT’s security educational presentation for the pupils of Play Corner Nursery on 17 September.
Presented by Mr ADT, the hour-long show included show and tell demonstrations, puppet shows and magic tricks.
Bullying, home robberies and hijacking were just a few of the issues covered while providing entertaining scenarios for the toddlers and educators.
Darin McDowall (Mr ADT), who presents the shows to pre-school and primary schools, said this is part of the security company’s social awareness campaign and identifying stranger danger.
“The shows keep the children entertained and they learn a couple of things on safety as well, but because they are young, you don’t want to overwhelm them with too much information. We teach them just a few necessities on being safe and calling the police in dangerous situations and provide entertainment to keep it light.”
During the show, the young ones took part in fun interactions on ways to identify “Baddies” and using the panic button during an attack at home.
Mr ADT does eight safety awareness shows a month for schools in the province.
Play Corner educator, Iris Murdoch said, “The show was lovely. It related well to the children and it still carried the message across. We have the shows annually here at the school.”
McDowall also speaks on personal safety, electricity safety and the dangers of playing with fire weapons. It is never too early to educate children on the dangers that exists in our society and should be encouraged to learn how to alert police officers on the 10111 hotline.
