Energy of mind used for essence of life

Maragon Private schools train their pupils for jobs that do not yet exist.

Maragon Private Schools, Olympus displayed their solar car (the Solar Eagle) to their family school, Maragon Ruimsig on 28 August.

The Solar Eagle team shared the educational value, skills and experience of what this project (which is part of their curriculum) meant to them, mentored by teachers, parents and professionals.

Over 500 excited Ruimsig pupils engaged with those of Olympus students. They asked questions about the project and wondered if this solar car really will be driving over 2 000km. The race starts on 27 Septembe from Pretoria to Cape Town in 8 days by only using solar energy. Maragon Olympus is one of the first schools participating in the Sasol Solar Challenge competing against universities.

The Sasol Solar Challenge harnesses the power of sunlight, which South Africa has in abundance, to bring together eager young minds and innovative individuals with a common goal to finish the 5 400km journey in poll position.

Held in South Africa every two years, in collaboration with Motorsport South Africa and the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), the challenge is an impressive demonstration of leading technology and the sophistication and performance of solar powered vehicles.

Maragon Private Schools train their pupils for jobs that do not just to exist. Maragon Olympus aims to involve their whole Maragon Group in the next 2016 Sasol Solar Challenge.

“Our school is big enough to do awesome stuff like these but also small enough to involve everybody,” says public relations student Joel Miruho.
