Roads Agency promises to repair road issues in Ward 126

WELTEVREDENPARK – Ward 126 councillor meets with the Johannesburg Roads Agency to discuss road issues in his ward..

Ward 126 councillor Mike Tonkin and two representatives from the area sat in a meeting with the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to discuss problems with the roads in the area.

Tonkin said, “The meeting was necessary and had to be arranged so that we could have the opportunity to meet representatives from the entity face-to-face and to try and show them the problematic areas in the ward.”

He explained that the first issue that needed to be address is something that affects the safety of school pupils in the area.

“Motorists endanger the lives of these pupils as they speed up and down Cockspur Road and we decided that the entity will have to install a traffic calming measure about 200 meters up the road to slow traffic down in time.”

“The proposal has been given to JRA to do a feasibility study to work out if the road needs speed-bumps.”

CPF Sector 2 chairperson Neville Burnett informed that the meeting was attended by Lawrence Maseko from JRA, who promised to look at each problem raised during the meeting.

Tonkin further explained, “With the upcoming rainy season around the corner we spoke about the storm water drains and the problematic weeds that are growing in gutters that could stop the water from running down into the drains. The entity needs to use pesticide to permanently remove the weeds.”

He added that road-markings are a big problem in the Ward as the lines in the roads are faded and some stop signs are unmarked, which could cause possible accidents.

“We will follow up on the entity and keep a close eye on their progress to see if they are repairing all the problems in our Ward.”
